Foreign Minister Wang Yi is urging BRICS nations to advance a collective agreement on peace.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi participated in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on Monday, where all participants lauded the significant role of the BRICS mechanism and the accomplishments resulting from its expansion. They emphasized that the inclusion of more countries in BRICS cooperation expedites the process of global multipolarity and fosters a more equitable and rational international order.

Reflecting on the past year, Wang Yi remarked that BRICS cooperation has been characterized by vibrancy, swiftness, and robustness. He highlighted how the expansion of membership has ushered in a new era of collective self-reliance for the Global South, with the influence and appeal of BRICS steadily increasing. Despite facing challenges, the collective unity and success achieved through mutual support have propelled BRICS forward, making its brand shine brighter and its voice more influential.

Amidst current global transformations, Wang underscored the importance for BRICS to maintain a broad and forward-thinking perspective. He expressed concern over the resurgence of Cold War mentalities among certain major powers, the formation of geopolitical cliques, and the open resistance to UN Security Council resolutions, which undermine the credibility of multilateral mechanisms. Wang also highlighted the growing politicization and securitization of economic issues, as well as the rise in unilateral sanctions and technological barriers. In response to these challenges, he urged BRICS to align with the trend of history, uphold fairness and justice, and make informed decisions.

Looking ahead, Wang called on the "Big BRICS" to shoulder greater responsibilities and achieve significant milestones. He advocated for leveraging the strategic significance and political impact of BRICS to transform it into a new type of multilateral cooperation mechanism rooted in emerging markets and developing countries, with a global outlook and open inclusivity. Wang emphasized the importance of upholding multilateralism, preserving the UN-centered international system, and resisting actions that disrupt international order and violate established rules.

Furthermore, Wang stressed the need for BRICS to promote equitable and orderly global multipolarity, inclusive economic globalization, and development-centered agendas. He urged for enhanced cooperation in digital economy and artificial intelligence, ensuring equal participation and benefits for developing countries. On security matters, Wang emphasized the importance of dialogue, consultation, and political resolutions in addressing conflicts, including the Palestine-Israel conflict and the Ukraine crisis.

In conclusion, Wang Yi proposed leveraging the resources and market advantages of BRICS to strengthen financial and trade cooperation, ensure energy and food security, foster innovation, and facilitate cultural exchanges. He highlighted China's establishment of the "China-BRICS AI Development and Cooperation Center" as a platform for industry alignment and capacity building. The meeting participants reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism, opposed unilateralism and protectionism, and called for reforms in the international financial structure to enhance the voice and representation of developing countries. They also underscored the importance of peaceful dispute resolution through dialogue and consultation, as well as support for efforts conducive to resolving crises peacefully. Additionally, a joint statement of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting was issued during the gathering.
