It's finally here—Metroid fans, Metroid Prime 4 is officially titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and it's coming out on the Switch in 2025.
First announced at E3 2017, with Bandai Namco as the developer, Metroid Prime 4 would fill what was an increasingly long-awaited gap left for this beloved series since Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in 2007. Anticipation for something new and full Metroid isn't appeased by interim releases like Metroid: Other M or Metroid Prime remasters.
However, development hit a snag when Nintendo canned the project in 2019 due to its inability to meet the standards of the series. Hope was put back into the fans by contracting Retro Studios to start afresh with the project to come up with a worthy sequel for the saga of Samus Aran.
Not only has Nintendo confirmed the release date of the game today, but it's also given fans a special treat in the form of gameplay footage—a real barnburner that puts Samus in the midst of alien worlds, intense combat, and classic abilities harnessed into action, such as going all ball-morph.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will likely release during the tail end of the Switch's lifespan, and there has already been rampant speculation about what comes next for Nintendo. But none of that dampens a Metroid fan's passion in the slightest, as they really want to get out there and celebrate Samus's march into her next adventure.
Be on the lookout for further updates as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is shaped up for its blockbuster launch on the Nintendo Switch.
